What is an Edain, and is any different from a Gondorian? Why can't these people speak in English? I'll be posting more in this thread in regards to the "Men" of Tolkiens world . . .

The Name of Men and "Plan":Men were to be the second born race, after the Elves and were part of Iluvatars plan. While not as "interesting" as the elves, they would prove to be most instrumental in that plan accorduing to Eru Iluvatar. Their name? The "Second People". Therefore you will hear these names that refer to men: Edain, singular Adan: Sindarin (Elvish) Atani, Atan: Quenya (Elvish) Again, this literally means "Second People" in those langugages. At first, those names referred to all men and women, though later it referred to those that lived in Bereliand (See the map in the Maps section regarding the Simirillion at fellowshipnorth.proboards92.com/index.cgi?board=places&action=display&thread=1152226308 ) in Sindarin. The Quenya word "Atani" still refers to "men" no matter where they live.
