What is it with these little pipeweed smokers anyhow? Where'd they get their start? Is Gollum a Hobbit? How did Frodo walk up those mountains and through Mordor without any shoes? We can discuss information regarding the hobbits here. . .

Hobbits:
Hobbits, as we all know, are short little folk. They can be as short as two feet tall, or the giants among hobbits (considered Shaq-like) are as high as four feet high, with what a man would considered huge ol feet with leatherly soles.
But where do they come from? They are actually, a small race of men, although the exact geneologies are lost. They originated in the Anduin valley, between the Anduin River and the Misty mountains. Thus at that time, hey were sometimes called "River folk".

The Anduin River Valley, or the area that Hobbits orginally came from; remembering that they are actually a race of men. Notice (Well, it's sort of hard to see since the map greys it out) that right next to their Anduin River Valley origin, is the area of the Rhovanion. The LOTR mentions that the men of Rohan notices that some of the words that Hobbits use, were words that they were familiar with in their tongue. The men of Rohan actually originated east of the Anduin River Valley, in that same area.
