In the book, the Simirillion, the first book is "The Ainulindalë" meaning "The Music of the Ainur"). Iluvatar is basically the name Tolkien gives to the one God in his books - his full name being Eru Iluvatar, meaning The Father of All
Iluvatar, or Eru is a single monotheistic god thet does not exist in any Triune, which suprised many of Tolkiens readers, seeing as how Tolkien was a ardent Roman Catholic. He basically stated that this Eru Iluvatar was God as understood by the peoples living in Middle Earth legend.
